Florida has one of the largest numbers of nesting sea turtles in the world. About 600 nests are laid on Miami-Dade County beaches every year. There are five species of sea turtles unique to Florida shores and all are protected under state statutes, since they are either threatened or endangered. So why should we care? With nesting season well underway, it’s vital to share how people can contribute to the safety and well-being of sea turtles.
Michael Peraza
Michael Peraza is a student at Florida International University pursuing a degree in Digital Media. He was exposed to sea turtle conservation at a young age. Seeing the plight of these gentle giants caused him to care more deeply about their survival.
Paula Franco
Paula Franco is a student at Florida International University, currently pursuing a dual degree in Marketing and Broadcast Media. She is passionate about positively shaping culture through the entertainment industry. She is a team player who can motivate and unite a group towards a common goal. She possesses strong relationship building and communication skills along with the gift of administration. She is a strong believer is stewardship and is committed to being a good steward of the world she lives in. This has led her to join a highly skilled team in promoting the importance of sea turtle conservation and effect change in South Florida.
Lissette Sanchez
Lissette Sanchez is a digital marketing coordinator and student at Florida International University. Presently, she is working on completing her second degree in the field of Digital Media with a focus on E-Analytics, Art, and Computer Science. Lissette's passion for social change and wildlife conservation, led her to create the Sea Turtles South Florida site. Lissette alongside a skillful student team hopes to promote change in the South Florida community.
Manuel Izquierdo
Manuel Izquierdo is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in digital communications. He has a passion for creating content for the digital spaces but he mainly focuses most of his time in world of online video and marketing and travel and commercial photography.
